We should all try to be more mindful of our time online. For me, logging into Facebook on a daily basis just doesn’t make the cut. It can drag you into a time warp and spit you back out with a hangover if you let it. Wouldn’t you much rather be spending your time doing more important things, like watching dogs on swings, set to music?
People who take the time to “wall an HB” are spectacular. They’re so much better than me. Actually knowing the person whose birthday it is IRL is optional these days, obviously. But in order to wish your peeps a Happy Birthday, you need to know it’s their birthday first. How do you do this without logging in to Facebook? And what is the meaning of life? I’ll help answer the first question for you. But you’re on your own for the second one, sucker. Instead of achieving OCD status by logging in to see whose birthday it is everyday, here are a few easy steps for how to beat the system.
1. Log into Facebook. Click the present icon in the upper right hand corner. Next to Today’s Birthdays, click See All.
2. At the top of the next page, next to Create Event, click the tiny magnifying class. Then click Export Birthdays.
3. Click the URL that appears.
4. A link to a calendar URL will appear. Click Subscribe.
5. There’s an option to change the color of the calendar if you use iCal. Then click OK.
If you prefer to use Gmail Calendar, here’s how to Sync iCal with your Google Calendar.
6. Your Friends’ Birthdays on Facebook now appear either in iCal or on your Gmail calendar.
Moves like Jagger.
Now you can go ahead and wish your friends’ a more personalized birthday experience. Instead of walling the trite HB on Facebook.
Did this work for you? What are some ways you remember Friends’ Birthdays? Am I a Scrooge for not following the masses?
